Their hard work paid off and Dillon and the GEICO team departed the NASCAR Cup Series garage in Sparta, KY, on Sunday evening glaring with confidence subsequently posting another stiff result.

A random draw sent Dillon and his GEICO Chevy off of the starting filigree from the 33rd position when the green flag signaled the showtime of the Quaker State 400 on Sunday afternoon. Dillon wasted no time and made instant progress, picking up seven spots and taking over the 26thursday position in just the first 3-laps of the race.

The GEICO Camaro was quick and Dillon posted the fastest lap of the race on lap 64 before once more posting his fastest lap with ten laps to become in Stage 1. He continued his trek and rested in the 23rd position when the opening stage came to a close. Dillon and the No. xiii GEICO entry maintained their speed through the race'south second phase and were in the summit-20 at its conclusion on lap 80.

Dillon started the 3rd and final stage of the 400.5-mile race from the 16th position, but rapidly broke into the summit-fifteen on the restart lap and had the GEICO Chevy solidly in the 12th position as the run wore on. He worked his manner into the top-x and was turning his fastest laps of the afternoon with less than xl-laps remaining in the 267-lap event.

Dillon made a scheduled greenish flag pit stop on lap 223, where the Germain Racing crew outfitted the GEICO Chevy with four fresh Goodyear tires, a tank of Sunoco racing fuel and a minor air pressure adjustment. Unfortunately, merely a few laps later, the yellowish flag waved, slowing the field and leaving Dillon and a host of others a lap in arrears. Crew Chief, Matt Borland, ordered Dillon to remain on the track and take the wavearound, which returned the No. 13 GEICO Camaro to the atomic number 82 lap, just dorsum in the 22nd position. When the race returned to green, Dillon was faster than the cars in forepart of him, so he exercised patience as he advisedly navigated his fashion through the field.

With just half dozen-laps remaining, the circumspection flag flew for the final fourth dimension. The green flag would restart the Quaker Country 400 with just two-laps to go in the race, which sent the field scrambling across the racing surface as drivers looked to dash to the front. Dillon managed to hold off a hard-charging Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson to score a 16th place finish as the checkered flag closed out an exciting 267-laps of heated racing action. Kentucky Speedway is amid the challenging intermediate facilities that often cause headaches, but today the GEICO team recorded their all-time-ever NASCAR Cup Series result at the Kentucky tri-oval.

"Solid 16th-identify finish today at Kentucky. That's ii meridian-16's in a row, which is awesome," Dillon said later on the race. Austin Dillon Earns Stage Points And Powers His Manner To 13th-Place Cease in the No. three RigUp Chevrolet at Kentucky Speedway

"We had a lot of fun today in the RigUp Chevrolet. Justin Alexander and the entire No. 3 team did a heck of a job all twenty-four hours, and I think if nosotros wouldn't have had impairment to our car nosotros would have been right upward there in the mix at the end of the race. We were able to earn some Phase points once again this weekend, so that was adept. Green-flag pit stops were cycling through at the end of Stage ii, and we were but about to enter pit road when the caution flag was displayed. I chop-chop got back onto the rails to avoid pit road and concluded up spinning in front of the field. I was waiting for the big one on the right-side door but thankfully anybody avoided me. After that, though, we had a actually tight-handling Chevrolet. I was just then tight, which made information technology difficult on the last couple of restarts. Still, 13th isn't bad considering the impairment we had."

Tyler Reddick and the Caterpillar Team Forge Forward into a Top-10 Finish at Kentucky Speedway

"Races like today are ones we need to become ourselves into a Playoff spot in the next few weeks. We really had to fight for our top-10 finish today at Kentucky Speedway. Our No. viii Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE was tight for near of the solar day just freed up well-nigh as well much in the final few laps. My team kept later it all day, and we were able to get up into the top 12 during Phase 2 subsequently some pretty large swings on the adjustments. We got shuffled back in the field during the stage break between Stages 2 and three when we hit pit road thinking more cars behind us would follow. Unfortunately, they didn't so nosotros had to fight up through the field ane more time, while also existence smart and non getting in any situations that would cease our twenty-four hours early. We were able to practise that today and catch a top-10 finish with a machine nosotros struggled with, and then that's a positive. I know spots in the Playoffs are starting to dwindle down, then we're going to take to continue picking it up. Top-10 finishes are going to help united states of america, only we're in a very volatile spot in the standings where things like today could happen and drivers behind usa in points could win and lock in a spot. We'll stay aggressive and not permit points go abroad from us equally we get down to the final races of the regular flavour."

"We had a actually adept car," DiBenedetto said. "I mean, nosotros could take contended for the win."

"It was really fast, merely lost rails position when things shuffled around and we had to practice the wave around.  Me and my scout - I've got to requite him a lot of credit, Doug Campbell. I told him we should win some sort of restart accolade - had two monstrous restarts and then pushed Cole to the win there, which kind of felt cool."

"Skilful for him. Congrats, merely this is a big race for us having the Menards/Quaker State Ford Mustang in the Quaker State 400, and then I wish we could have won it, but circumstances didn't work out. We'll take a potent finish and a really fast car."

You get loose one time and tin can lose about ten spots. It'south really unfortunate. I hate it. I hate giving upwardly spots at the end of a race, but that happens with this packet and especially when some of these restarts go crazy. If you're not in the right line, it just happens. I feel similar I let my guys down. We had another solid performance speed-wise; we just didn't get the result today. Thanks to everybody at Dear's Travel Stops for coming on board with usa.
