FANS are convinced they can see Andy Murray's PENIS in an X-ray scan he shared on social media.

The Brit ace underwent hip surgery in London yesterday in a desperate bid to save his career.

And while it is not clear whether everything will be in working order, his hawk-eyed followers think they've seen something that is in the X-rayted snap.

One fan wrote: "Huge thanks to Andy Murray for sending the world an X-Ray d*** pic this morning!"

Another said: "You can see the top of his d*** 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 or that just Andy Murray"

The shape in the X-ray may indeed be Murray's privates, and is known as the Throckmorton - or John Thomas - sign in medical slang.

The Throckmorton sign refers to the "shadow" of a penis, which shows up in X-rays.

Doctors noticed that, for patients with hip fractures, the Throckmorton sign always points towards the break in the bone.

Murray's dream of a Wimbledon farewell is in serious doubt following his hip op.

The 31-year-old stunned the sporting world when he announced plans to retire this year at his press conference before the Australian Open.

But after he crashed out in the first round following a defeat to Roberto Bautista, he hinted surgery could save his career.

This morning Murray shared a picture of himself in a hospital bed and an X-ray photograph of his hip with his 1.6m Instagram followers.

He added the caption: "I underwent hip resurfacing surgery in London yesterday morning.

"Feeling a bit battered and bruised just now but hopefully that will be the end of my hip pain.

"I now I have a metal hip as you can see the second photo and I look like I've got a bit of a gut in photo one."

What is hip resurfacing surgery?

• Hip resurfacing is a type of hip replacement which replacements the surface of the hip joint
• The procedure preserves more bone than a total hip replacment
• The head of the femur or 'ball' is not removed but is reshaped to allow a metal cap to be put on top of it
• The surface of the socket is also replaced with a metal implant
• Most patients are walking comfortably six weeks after the operation
• Patients will be able to move at greater speed and distance compared to before the surgery
• Recovery will continue four to six months after the operation
• Most patients return to work and will start driving again six weeks after the surgery

Murray has been battling against the injury since Wimbledon in 2017, when he crashed out to Sam Querrey and he underwent hip surgery in January 2018.

After crashing out of the Australian Open, the stage was set for Murray to bow out at SW17, which he won in 2013 and 2016.

He said: "Maybe I'll see you again. I'll do everything possibly to try.

"If I want to go again, I'll need to have a big operation where there are no guarantees I will be able to come back from. I will give it my best shot.

"I have basically two options. One is to take the next four-and-a-half months off and come back for Wimbledon.

"But if I have an operation like that, there are no guarantees I can come back from that."
